Vegan Nutrition Q&A: Plant Burgers

Vegan Nutrition Q&A: Plant Burgers
Heather Nicholds, C.H.N.

There’s a tidal wave of interest in plant-sourced burgers that are so close to beef burgers omnivores can’t tell the difference.

Since I get asked about them all the time in my day to day life, I wanted to share some thoughts, from my various perspectives as a vegan, an environmentalist, and a holistic nutritionist.

What do you think? Have you tried one or all of these burgers? Let me know your thoughts below!

I’ve tried both of these burgers and I find them delicious. That being said, if you find meat disgusting you don’t want to eat them, because they do resemble the real thing. And if you are trying to eat healthy to avoid disease, e.g. diabetes, heart disease you should limit them in you meal planning. They are high in protein but they contain large quantities of fat and salt.

So I don’t have a comment on burgers but I do on Mahjong! I love it!!!! It took me a good three months before I got it under my belt and really knew what I was doing but now I play on line almost every day and with others whenever I can. With my local senior centers we can find a game most days if we want. I would recommend going to Myjongg.net and signing up. You can play 4 free games with other people or with robots. I prefer robots as it is faster. There are tutorials on the site that are helpful for beginners. Also Mahjongg Maven on you tube is great. Best game I ever learned and I am 70. My daughter who is 42 plays with me and loves it more than I do.

Thank you for all the great information…nutrition becomes more and more difficult to navigate all the time. So, like you say if it makes it easy and enjoyable for some people the endgame is worth the exchange in higher sodium. And if you do not like simulated meat and can meet your nutritional needs without kudos to those who can and do.
